Alfriston & Lewes
Departs: 18th June 2019
Set in the Cuckmere Valley, Alfriston is a pretty village with many fine buildings. The Star Inn was built as a hostel by the Abbot of Battle and used by travellers on pilgrimage from Battle to Chichester. It was here that King Alfred is reputed to have burned the cakes. The Clergy House was the first property acquired by the National Trust.
In the afternoon we continue to Lewes, a attractive and historic riverside town. It is situated within the boundaries of the South Downs National Park. Boasting a fine Norman Castle and many varied and attractive shops - there is much here to see.
